Facebook closes immediately when opened from desktop of iPhone 6

Hello and Good Evening Everyone,

I wish to help a friend who is having trouble opening Facebook from the desktop environment of her iPhone 6.  Basically, when an attempt is made to open Facebook on the desktop, it will open and immediately close or disappear from the screen.  Of possible technical and troubleshooting interest, Facebook will open and allow her to log in when it is accessed from the search results of Google.   Unfortunately, I am not knowledgeable enough about iPhones to carry out any sort of troubleshooting strategies.  As such, any suggestions or tips geared toward resolving this concern will be greatly appreciated.

        Thank you

        George

It makes sense that she could open it with a Google search and possibly have problems with it on her iPhone when she uses the Facebook icon. When you use Google search you're actually connecting to a mobile version of the Facebook website. Otherwise, if you just use the Facebook Icon on the iPhone you're using the Facebook app. First thing I would do is powered down and repower the iPhone. If it still does it you might want to go to the App Store on the iPhone and verify that Facebook is updated.

I agree, try updating first through itunes store, you may also want to try and remove it from your phone and reinstall the app....

Hello

Thank you so much for your suggestions.  If it would not be too much trouble, could you provide the necessary steps needed to verify if Facebook is updated using the App Store of the iPhone?

There is a shortcut on the phone called "APP store", click on that and after you sign in, look on the bottom under "updates", see if facebook is in the list to update :)
MrSlithyCommented:
There's an icon on the iPhone it's blue has a big P in the middle with a circle. This is the App Store open up the App Store and choose updates from the far right-hand. There might be a number of updates but look to see if the Facebook app needs to be updated.

Of course all this assumes that the user is logged in with Apple account and have it has access to all the future.
MrSlithyCommented:
You can delete the Facebook app by just pushing and holding the Facebook app icon until it starts shaking and then hit the X to delete it. However before doing this make sure you can get into the App Store and authenticate with the person's account before read downloading Facebook.

But before you do this just verify there's not an update waiting that might fix the problem first.

Hello and Good Evening Everyone,

I am pleased to say this concern is now resolved as a result of using everyone's feedback.  When my friend accessed the list of apps which was in need of updating, she did notice Facebook within the list.  Once it was updated, the Facebook icon began to work again properly and without problems.

         Thanks again.
