Crystal 8.5: Not Pulling in All of the Defaults

Hello:

I have six Crystal 8.5 reports, each pointing to one of six databases.

One of the reports is not pulling in all of the default values of a field.  Why would that be?

Thanks!

Pulling in where?  Maybe when trying to set the default values for a parameter?  If so, how many values are there?  I think there may be a limit on how many values CR will read like that.

Yes, when trying to set the default values for a parameter.  There are likely hundreds if not thousands of values.

I know with some versions of CR there was a default limit of 1500 values or something like that (that's just something I've seen mentioned here).  I think there was a registry entry you could add/change to increase that limit, but I don't have the details.  mlmcc or someone else will probably be along sooner or later and be able to provide some details.

The default limit on a List of Values (LOV) is 1000.  It can be changed through the registry however you would have to change the registry for all users.

WHen you set the default value why do you need a LOV?
You can just type the value in.

mlmcc,

I was only thinking about setting the default values for a parameter.  Does that limit also apply when you run the report and CR displays the list of default values?

If the limit only applies when setting the default values, then you presumably only need to change the registry for users and computers that will be setting those default values.  But if the limit also applies when displaying the default values, then, yeah, I guess you would have to change the registry for any user and computer that would run the report, which could complicate things quite a bit.

mlmcc,

I hate to go so far off topic, but I don't know where else to ask.  There used to be one or more sections where you could post questions about the site or whatever, but if they're still around, I'll be damned if I can find them.

Is it just me, or does the new site design not give us any way to see only the open questions?  With options to view "Questions" and "Solutions", I would expect "Questions" to be only the open questions, but it's giving me everything.

The 100 limit applies to any LOV whether when setting the default value or selecting from the list when you run a report.

Personally I think if you have that many in the list there may be a better way to put the lists together.

Even with the 1000 limit if you can allow the user to type in values.

I don't think I was even aware that they had groups here.  I don't see them mentioned anywhere, including on the site map.  <shrug>  The Questions link on the page you mentioned is the one that I was referring to.  The list I get includes closed questions.

Wrapping up my little side trip here, I'm seeing colors by the questions here on the site now, identifying which ones are "open", etc.  So maybe the site redesign just wasn't finished before.  Getting back on track ...

 TBSupport,

If you really want to allow more than 1000 values, mlmcc can probably give you the details for the registry change, but, like he said, I guess that would need to be done for every user/computer that was going to run a report with that many values in the list.  If you want the details, is this still with CR 10?  The change may be different for different versions of CR.

But, really, with that many values, it might be worth considering some other approach.  I, for one, would not want to scroll through 1000 or more values.  That just sounds awfully cumbersome.

The change is basically the same but each version changes the registry flag and its location.  It is a flag you have to add, it doesn't exist if you want the default value.

Hi mlmcc:

What's the flag?

This is for CR 10?  The registry entry is different for different versions.

Looked back at your original question.  CR8.5 doesn't have dynamic parameters.

When you create/edit the parameter you have to import the LOV.  If the LOV changes you will have to reimport it.

Open the report
Edit the parameter
Delete the list of values
   Probably click ACTIONS then CLEAR
Import (APPEND DATABASE VALUES)
Click ACTIONS then APPEND DATABASE VALUES

Oops.  He did say 8.5, didn't he?  I hadn't looked back at the first post.

Is there a registry change for CR 8.5 to allow more values?

I have never heard of one or seen a link to change it if it exists.
