I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

Nope, all the configurations will be gone unless you are going to make the necessary backups from your existing server, and then deploy/restore the same configurations into the target new server.

You can just transfer the domain name to another domain registrar and keep your existing website at your current web host.  Your domain name and website can be at different companies.  Likewise, you can also have them all moved to your new web host if you wanted.

Not going to happen.  It would require your old host to give you new host access to the old servers and that won't happen.  In addition, they don't necessarily structure their servers the same.

Create a reliable backup. Make sure you always have dependable copies of your data so you can restore your entire system or individual files.

domain registration and domain hosting are 2 different items.  The registrar hold the DNS records. The hoster provided the services pointed to by the DNS records What you have to do is typically backup and restore from source to destination. Easier but more expensive if you have a virtual server and want to move it. Biggest concern are SQL connection strings as these will have to be modified.

thanks a lot guys for your replying it's clear now for me :), but if i need to do this backup and restore who can make it the hosting company or the owner of the domain that has his control pane? also if the old host has c-panel control panel does it make any different if the new host will use plesk panel???
David Johnson, CD, MVPOwnerCommented:
the owner of the domain has the credentials to do the backup.  Doesn't matter how the hosting provider provides access cpanel is just one of many options

You want to transfer your domain or hosting only? Domain and hosting are different thing. If you transfer hosting, then you must backup all your files, emails, databases from your old hosting providers. For domain, you need to obtain AUTH_CODE so you can transfer your domain to new registrar
