How to correct a specific extension asociation

Hello Experts,
When downloading a file (rar, exe) from google, Hotmail, yahoo.... it opens in notepad... does not let us download.
We are going to INTERNET OPTIONS , ADVANCED, RESET,
But it works for a few more times and then back.

I cannot tell which is the app that is doing this.... not any of our used ones... but still happening on this particular remote LAPTOP. it creates a problem when supporting our customers.

this laptop uses AWG antivirus FREE and Malwarebytes Free also.

Please your advice,
Regards,

"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

You need to reset the file association.

Here is a registry change that is needed.
