"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

It sounds as if you have "Auto-hide the taskbar" enabled. Disable it as follows:

Control Panel
Taskbar (applet)
Taskbar (tab in the applet)
Un-tick "Auto-hide the taskbar"

auto-hide taskbar
That should do it. Regards, Joe

I should have added that I had that option checked but it was still happening.

Ive now upgraded to win 10 this morning so this q no longer applies.

Thx anyway.

It needs to be un-checked, not checked.

Glad to hear that it's not a problem with W10. As a new W10 user, you may not be aware of its peer-to-peer update feature. I recommend reading this EE article:
Windows 10 uses YOUR computer to help distribute itself

Many folks are disabling that feature, but the decision is yours, of course. Regards, Joe
