list directory in RedHat

Try to list out the access right on sourcecode directory :

$ ls -al sourcecode
total 16
drwxr-xr-x    2 oocio    oocio              512 Aug 17 09:46 .
drwxr-xr-x    6 samin   samin            512 Aug 17 09:46 ..

What does "." and ".." represent ? Does directory sourcecode has been granted to user "oocio" ? Tks

I wear a lot of hats...

"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

./ usually denotes the current folder that your program or script is in, usually the same one with the file you run.
    ../ denotes the folder above the current one.

Every folder contains a . and a .. entry.

. means the directory itself. It is called the current directory.
.. means the directory's parent directory, that is, the directory that contains it.

That's why you can type cd .. and get to the parent directory.

From your listing, the current directory is owned by user oocio, from group oocio.

Dan
