I wear a lot of hats...

"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

The below assumes that ACCTNO is a character data type, if not lose the ' marks, and that ReadDate is a date.   If ReadDate is a character column, as the values 'month/year' are not in acceptable date format, then we'll have to convert to a date and then do the MAX.
SELECT Max(ReadDate) FROM YourTableName WHERE ACCTNO = '1001'

You can use

SELECT ACCTNO ,Max(convert(date,right(ReadDate,4) + '-' + left(ReadDate,1) + '-01')) FROM YourTableName
group by ACCTNO
