windows 8 won't update to windows 8.1

I have a DELL Inspiron 15z laptop, running windows 8 pro /w media center.  I am trying to get it ready to be given to another user.  I did a factory reset to clean it, and am working to build it back up.   I cannot get windows 8 to update to windows 8.1. It has a 64 bit intel I-5 processor.

I have tried to look in windows updates for this, but the update to windows 8.1 is not showing up.  I have also tried to start the update to windows 8.1 from the Microsoft store, and it says it will download and update, but it never does.  Please help.

The Update should be in the Store, as D_Vante said. Did you look there yet?

I have done all the windows 8 updates, alreay.  I have also been trying to access it from the store, but it is failing.  It attempts to download the update to windows 8.1, and then fails quickly, and tells me it can't complete the update.

Another thing to note is if you initially upgraded to windows 8 using your MSDN subscription, you will need to upgrade to 8.1 using the same method. The 8.1 update in the store was available to only OEM versions.
