USB devices not working

Hello,

I am having an issue with two computer's, the USB devices have stopped working.

I am able to work around the issue by booting to the Advanced Boot Options (F8) and selecting Disable Driver Signature Enforcement.

My other troubleshooting has included;
-updating the usb driver, there was no update from windows update
-deleting the usb device, rebooting to let it find the driver
-deleting the usb hub, rebooting to let it find the driver

You should not need to reboot for your later mentioned workarounds, just start a new device scan in Device Manager.

But it is strange the drivers work for some time (do they?), and stop working later. And that Driver Signature should be related - that should reject "invalid" drivers from start.

Hello Qlemo,

Yes, I did not have to reboot when uninstalled from the device manager. I did try with just a scan and when that did not working I tried with an uninstall and a reboot.

Yes, the USB devices worked for more than a year and then stopped working.

On every reboot I have to F8 to Disable Driver Signature Enforcement.

That would then mean that the driver has been changed, and replaced with an unsigned one, or the signature has got invalid (certificate revoked (by a CRL update), for example). Windows Update is able to update the local list of valid certification authorities, and keep a CRL.

HI Nobus, the devices are keyboards, mice and printers.

I also followed the post by Shubes on 6 Jun 2014 8:11 AM (http://en.community.dell.com/techcenter/os-applications/f/4457/t/19577823). I restarted and the computer it started the Startup Repair and it was unable to repair the OS.

I will have re-image the computer.
