Visual Studio 2015 Mobile App development

If you have used VS2015 for mobile app development,  I want you to help answer please.

The site says you build mobile apps in 2015 using C#, is vb.net no longer used at all?

can you do everything you do in a web app? can you use a web service to retrieve data?

does it allow data connections to your existing sql server database?

Please tell me about the features of what it comes with and what costs extra that I'll need, etc. to get out a mobile app that allows log in with user name and password, looking up their data, displaying data from my existing sql server database, etc. Just if it's possible and easy and doesn't have any hidden fees.

thanks!

This is perhaps a bit extreme, as David points out there are still tonnes of project templates you can use with VB.NET. Xamarin iOS and Android projects do not natively support Visual Basic; however developers can use Portable Class Libraries to migrate existing Visual Basic code to iOS and Android, or to write significant portion of their application logic in Visual Basic.

Yes. Probably so. But you have to mange your expectations here, web and mobile and desktop are not the same environments and each has it's own nuances. And yes, Xamarin’s Mobile Platform allows you to consume REST, WCF and SOAP web services (http://developer.xamarin.com/guides/cross-platform/application_fundamentals/web_services/).

does it allow data connections to your existing sql server database?
Xamarin.iOS and Xamarin.Android support database access APIs such as:
ADO.NET framework.
SQLite-NET 3rd party library.
