DNS Global Catolog

At the moment I have 3 domain controllers. One is a server 2012 r2 which I just built.   I will be demoting one of the DC at a future date

* 2 DC at one branch (one will be demoted-the other is the DC I just built)
*1 DC at another branch

I need to setup DNS Global Catalog on the new DC. .Someone told me I should wait until I am ready to demote the old DC before I set up the GC. I was told that having 2 DC that are GC  servers could make too much traffic for the network

Can someone explain this and point me to instructions on how to setup GC?

I do not see error messages in the DNS event logs but I do see this message in the DNS global log

Event Type:      Information
Event Source:      Microsoft-Windows-DNS-Server-Service
Event Category:      None
Event ID:      769
Date:            8/18/2015
Time:            9:13:14 PM
User:            NT AUTHORITY\SYSTEM
The description for Event ID ( 769 ) in Source ( Microsoft-Windows-DNS-Server-Service ) cannot be found. Either the component that raises this event is not installed on your local computer, or the installation is corrupted. You can install or repair the component on the local computer, or contact the component manufacturer for a newer version.

If the event was saved from another computer or forwarded from a remote computer, you might have to include display information with the events when saving them or when setting up the forwarding

"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

Not sure where you got that advise from, I enable GC on all domain controllers. you enable GC from within AD sites and services, navigate to the server you wish to enable as a GC > NTDS settings > Properties then check global catalog

Another reason for having more than one GC is products like Exchange are dependant on at least one GC being available per site
