How to install eclipse SCADA on Linux Debian?

Hello!

I am an IT consultant that comes into different projects with different environments a few months. The current project asks me first to install a Java environment that supports both the OPC DA interface & has the REST API. What I found is eclipse SCADA, and the partner company decided to implement all the stuff on a Linux Debian server. So, I have to install the environment on Linux, but it seems not so easy as it is in the Windows case.

The last decade, I worked on Windows systems, and the years I was involved with Linux/UNIX dates back more than twenty years now. I already asked a question at the Eclipse Forum, but got no answer till now. The problem I have is the documentation for Eclipse SCADA, where in the configuration part, it is written that
During the configuration it is necessary to add the "Debian Deployment Mechanism" to the target node where this functionality should be installed.
What the hack is the "Debian Deploymet Mechanism"? Do you have a better information than the Eclipse SCADA documentation I mentioned above?

Thank you for your help!

I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

First question: are you running Debian with a windowing environment?

Thank you for your reply!

We are running Debian on an environment that runs in the Oracle VM VirtualBox. The visual overlay is GNOME.

In that case i would follow exactly the same instructions as per Ubuntu and get ready to roll back the VM if it doesn't work ;)
