can't get installer to work

I'm trying to start an installer but I get a conflicting action to "open" the file rather than to "run" or click "yes".
when I click on "open", nothing happens.
when I try to "save", "save as", or "save and run", nothing happens.
well, actually, I can "save as" it to my desktop but when I click on it there, still nothing happens.
I also tried two other download sites and got the same results. install2.PNG

I wear a lot of hats...

"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

I'm using Chrome.    I just confirmed that it works in Internet Explorer too.

All of your "nothing happens" results are the same as what happens when you do "Save As" and nothing happens when you open  the downloaded file.

The file you're opening should be a .exe file. For it to crash without any visible evidence may mean it is being blocked from executing, perhaps by an AV program?

What's the OS you're trying to install this on? And to go out on a limb, what's the status of your Java?

Anything in the event log associated with the attempt to execute the download?

Can we assume you've successfully downloaded other exe files and had them run OK?

Thanks but I was able to do it in safe mode.

jmcgOwnerCommented:
Hmmm. Installing programs in safe mode is a pretty unusual step. I'm glad it worked out for you, but it indicates that there may have been something in your normal mode suite of programs that "thought" this program should be blocked from installing. Safe mode, in this context, is less safe, running without normal protections.
