can't get installer to work
I'm trying to start an installer but I get a conflicting action to "open" the file rather than to "run" or click "yes".
when I click on "open", nothing happens.
when I try to "save", "save as", or "save and run", nothing happens.
well, actually, I can "save as" it to my desktop but when I click on it there, still nothing happens.
I also tried two other download sites and got the same results.

Anything in the event log associated with the attempt to execute the download?
Can we assume you've successfully downloaded other exe files and had them run OK?

Thanks but I was able to do it in safe mode.
Hmmm. Installing programs in safe mode is a pretty unusual step. I'm glad it worked out for you, but it indicates that there may have been something in your normal mode suite of programs that "thought" this program should be blocked from installing. Safe mode, in this context, is less safe, running without normal protections.

jm, I disabled my antivirus program but it still does not open. my java is up to date. I'm using windows 7 professional.
