Can't copy on HP 8615

I have a multi page document I'm trying to copy. I inserted it into the document feeder on top, select copy, 2 copies.

It makes some noises like it's trying to do something, then it displays the error message "Scanner or document feeder open". Don't know what this means. I pressed down on the scanner lid  tried it again. Same issue.

What am I doing wrong?

Do you HAVE to feed the document in, or can you scan from the glass? It sounds as though the feeder is having trouble taking the document in.

Open, clean and (firmly) close the ADF (see page 35 of the User Manual)

Cleaned the rollers, doesn't make any difference.

I failed to mention that each time I try it puts out one blank sheet in the output area.

Guess I'll have to take the document to Staples or some place like that.

Crazy, you'd think it could do basic things like this.

If I scan sheets one at a time it works fine, but that sucks with big documents.

FYI, I don't recall ever copying a multi-page document before with this device (It's less than a year old).

Maybe it didn't work from the beginning.

HP reckon it'll take up to 40 sheets of "the right kind of media"
I have a Lexmark AIO and the ADF will take maybe 5 sheets on a good day.

If it does this whenever you copy a multi-page document (plain paper, as the one in the photo seems to be), and as it's less than 1 year old, get it repaired under warranty.

I have an HP 8610. If you can copy one sheet through the feeder, it is basically working.

What happens if you try to copy 10 sheets. That works on my HP 8610. If it does not work for you, then get it serviced. I purchased a total 2 year warranty on my printer for these kind of occurrences.
