I did warn you about upgrading Hardware Versions on virtual machines, and only to upgrade hardware versions if there was a requirement for the newer features.

Did you install VMware Tools before upgrading the virtual machine hardware version ?

A Stop 7B is a common error caused by mismatched driver and storage controller, either a storage controller driver is missing, or the storage controller is not compatible with the storage controller driver.

To be honest, with you I would rollback to backups up you took of the VMs, before you upgraded, and leave the VMs as is, before you retire them as they are Windows 2003.

Thanks Andrew, i already advised for same, but we have to push the updates as recommend by business

can we do something to correct the storage controller driver and avoid the same further?
Andrew Hancock (VMware vExpert / EE MVE^2)VMware and Virtualization ConsultantCommented:
Well you can now advise the business, they broke all the VMs, with their stupid ideas.

I also asked some questions in the previous post, which you seemed to have missed.

You will need to undergo a standard Windows 2003 repair.

Check storage controller driver is present, or mismatched.

how to verify   storage controller driver,if its present, or mismatched. ?
Andrew Hancock (VMware vExpert / EE MVE^2)VMware and Virtualization ConsultantCommented:
what storage controller is defined in the VM. look in the VM settings.
Unsupported way to downgrade virtual hardware:
Power off VM, locate it;s VMX file
Download VMX file to your desktop
Change VMX-08 / vmx-10 to vmx-07
Upload file back
start the VM

Save the snapshots, they are of no help here. You can make 10s of them but nne will restore on downgraded hardware.

Thanks a lot, so no use of snapshot if i want further to downgrade the VMs h/w version ?

only way is to update vmx and reload ?

if this the case why its asking for snapshot when we are scheduling it though update manager ?
You can attach the VM disk to any working VM & hive the registry to see whether storage controller drive is present or not.
You can use snapshot to downgrade virtual hardware, but virtual hardware upgrade kicks in at the moment machine is powered off, so you either make it from inactive VM before HW upgrade or from running machine.
if you do manual virtual hardware downgrade by manipulating VMX file, then there is no chance snapshots could work (and anyway you can make snapshot from broken system only)
