How to setup Citrix Xenapp?

I was tasked to setup the Citrix Xenapp 6.5 on a new VM installed with MS w2k8 R2. Besides this VM, there are 1 DC, 1 Navisons server, and 1 DB server hosting MS SQL 2008. The purpose of this xenapp application server is to host the Navisons, plus excel and Adobe application. How to set it up? Shall I download the Xenapp with feature pack 3 or else?

Please share step-by-step. Thanks,
Citrix

Hi Sekar,

How can I upgrade the xenapp installation to xenapp 6.5 with feature pack 3?

Now, I managed to download XA6.5_2008R2_ML_1.iso (Xenapp 6.5 for 2008 R2). What should I do to upgrade to 6.5 with feature pack 3 after the 6.5 installation?

after login to citrix website, I browse to xen 6.5 with feature pack 3, but, I don't think I see any installer for it. Does this mean I have to setup the base installer, and then upgrade to feature pack 3 or else?

Feature Pack 3 is a feature like service packs, It only covered some features. So you need to choose the features which you want to use \ upgrade. You have install the below tools manually
StoreFront 3, New Receivers, Director 7.6.300, Universal Print Server 7.6, Profile Management 5.2.1, License Server 11.12.1
Install sequence - Install XenApp 6.5, Complete Windows update, Install latest rollup pack, Install feature pack 3.

Hi Sekar,

thanks.

For a citrix server to support concurrent 20 user access, a RAM of 4Gb is sufficient?
Your help has saved me hundreds of hours of internet surfing.

its better to go for 2 servers with 8 gb, also i am not sure about application performance so better to test from your side to validate the same.

Hi Sekar,

thanks. Xenapp has to be installed on C: drive? any performance drop issue?
Do you suggest I should have one more drive - d:\ for other purpose?
Sekar Chinnakannu

Yes you can :) if you have enough storage. It wont cause performance issue if you install in C drive.

Hi Sekar,

Finally, Citrix server is up with xenapp, web interface, licensing server - all in a single server.  Try to publish excel an notepad and are able to access and use. User access for the very 1st time would be prompted to download receiver.

A few questions here:

 a. If I want to allow user access from web via Internet, that mean I have to install "Secure Gateway"?
 b. Besides the above remote access method (via web), any other access method for user?
 c.  Should I download and install the profile management and universal printer driver?

thanks in advance

Hi Sekar,

As for the upgrade sequence, currently, this citrix xenapp 6.5 was installed. As you mentioned;

The next steps I will do are:

    - Complete windows updates
    - Latest rollup pack (I search thru xenapp 6.5, 6.5 FP1, 6.5 FP2, 6.5 FP3; I don't think I found any)
    - Install FP3 (I search thru but found those components may not be needed. Can I fall back to use FP2?)

thanks,
Sekar Chinnakannu

Mike, better you can close and award points for this question and open new one for new queries.
