user does not have security permissions on client PC but does in AD

I have a few end user computers that are not taking some security group changes made in AD.  We gave permissions to access a network folder and added select users to a security group.  The settings will not take on the users computers, however if they use another computer they never logged in before it works.  I figured making a new profile on the local computer would resolve the issue, and it does.  However I cannot do this for every person.  I am looking for a quicker fix.

I tried doing gpupdate on client computer...fail
I tried remapping network drives...fail
I tried rejoining the domain...fail

Anything else I can try?  Clearly this has something to do with the local profile in the client if making a new one fixes problem.  So perhaps there is a less time consuming fix.

I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

Can you be specific, i.e. post the errors?

The user gets "access denied" on the network folders...

Beyond that, there are no errors.  Sorry, "fail" means that my attempt to fix did not work.
