HP desktop widows 7

How do you default the inherited permissions. Everything i click on opens windows media player/center. The icons for browsers show the media center logo/icon. That's in the administration account and I had to inherit administration from my uncle's computer when he passed away. Would it be easier to move the files back to his account and change the name to mine and make it the administration account. I can't backup after the windows 10 update,  however I did get it reverted back to the original windows 7 because I couldn't even use the newest windows edge browser and the other features.
Thanks very much for your time and help.

I wear a lot of hats...

"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

You can set the default programs via the control panel, default programs. Besides that, some programs also allow you to set themselves as the default program for their files through a setting within that particular program. So if you prefer a particular program to open particular files, start that program, then look if it has an area where you can change it's settings.

Also you can use your uncle's account and change the name. I assume when you move the files back to uncle's account, then they will work properly.

Also scan for viruses and malware as that may be causing the issue.

if it is a recent problem, a system restore to a date it was ok can help too
