Sharepoint 2010 - Event ID 2268 Could Not Load ISAPI Filters

Out of the blue today both of my front end Sharepoint 2010 web server with down and the event logs are flooded with EVENT ID 2268. There were not windows updates on the servers or changes or any type. I tried to restart IIS but it did not help...

Any suggestions?????

Check the app pools to make sure they are all running, not stopped.

All app pools are running ... here is the strainge part I was able to update our load balance and point all connections to the sharepoint app server which is working fine and accepting connections until I can fine the issue with the WFE's

After further digging it does appear that an application was installed by out automatic software deployment system by accident. It did install .NET 1.1 which i believe messed everything up and even after uninstalling it I am getting the error

I tried the suggestion in the following link..I did have a double quote but the site will will not load..

I did another reboot and everything started to work again...
