It is possible there is a problem with the cable seating at either end.
It is possible that the cable was not the problem and the hard drive is failing.
It is possible the motherboard has an issue or the CPU is overheating. I would look at the hard drive first.

I suggest you consider servicing it at the Apple Store. They will have tools to tell you more precisely what is wrong.

Check the console logs to see what error messages are thrown up immediately before it shuts off.

Hi There,

What year was your macbook purchased?

Recently I had a problem with a MacBook Pro Early 2011, seemed like it was over heating, opened it up, removed the fans, found a few chunks of dust, blew out the heat sink and that semi resolved the problem.

It started to experience Video issues, a brief look on Apple and it turned out there was a repair program for a known issue. Apple replaced the Logic Board for FREE.

I might suggest a quick call through to Apple Tech Support, they can advise you of any repair programs that may relate to your issue and then book you in to the Genius Bar at a local Apple centre.

Hope this helps. Matt

Are you connected to an external power source when you are trying to turn it on, or are you running off battery? If you are running off the battery, it may be bad or be low on power.
