Exchange 2010 message queued
Hi,
I am using exchange 2010 with sp3 on a single server with transport/client access/ mailbox roles on it. The server is running on windows 2012 /32G memory / 2 socket 16 core processor. The current mailbox database size is 900GB ( single database)
Question is: when i am running the windows backup(wbadmin), the message queued for delivery shoots up and some email delays are up to 30 mins. this is consistent every time i'm doing a windows backup. can you help me pinpoint the cause of email delays during this time?

Windows Backup uses VSS to take a snapshot so it should not necessarily affect/take exchange down but you will experience a degrade in performance from exchange while it is being backed up. I have seen Windows Backups take exchange down to a crawl and when it finishes everything returns to normal. 900GB is a decent size database to backup and what I would do it try running the backup without exchange and narrow it down.

what do you mean by "running the the backup without exchange"?
additional info: the database volume is on the SAN storage via iSCSI connection.
