Hot Swap SAS Drive HP Proliant ML350 G6 with VMWARE

I have an HP Server ML350 G6 running VMWARE with 2 virtual machines.  One of the 4 300GB SAS Drives went bad so I swapped it with another drive that is of the exact model.  There is no activity on the 4th drive that I replaced.  No blinking lights and no lights at all.  I am new to VMWARE so is there a way to rebuild the RAID 5 array?

"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

I have the VSPHERE client on a laptop that I use to access the server.

Have you got HP's iLO port connected up? Be worth getting onto that and viewing the IML logs before doing any Raid rebuilds - you would lose the data on there for a start and have to start again if you have no external storage via SAS, ISCSI or FC

If you are using the OEM HP version of ESXi (available as a download from VMware and HP), you can send commands direct to the Storage Controller to check what is going on.

Auto Rebuild should happen automatically, on most Smart Array Controllers. You can use the hpacucli command

Otherwise you will need to reboot, and enter the Array Utilities (F8), or run the ACU (array configuration itility from the Smart Start DVD)
