"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

It is already present. So you need to use different name like Grant-S

i do not understand the expression "It is already present". Can you explain a bit more?

In the screenshot you provided, it is already present user mailuser OU. With name grants. You can have only unique value in AD.

You have that name already in AD. Please look at the attached picture.

What this is saying is there is an account or group in AD already with the name "grants."  My bet would be you have a user whose name is G Rants (like Gregg Rants).  This would obviously be based on your naming convention.  But the above is accurate in that you either need to get rid of the account/group (probably not the best idea) or change the name of this group/list.

There is a property by name SamAccountName is conflicting for "Grants" with one more object in your AD (Under MailUser OU). The properties like Name, SamAccountName and UserPrincipalName should be unique.

You can give a slightly different name in your next try or use the below command from Exchange management shell.

New-DistributionGroup -Name 'grants' -OrganizationalUnit 'intern.risingtide.ch/Rising Tide/RT Distribution Groups' -SamAccountName 'grants1' -Alias 'grants1' -DisplayName 'Grants'

Check if you get a similar error for Name attribute, change the same accordingly

Note that, SamAccountName and Alias properties will not matter for end users. They will always look at DisplayName

One more suggestion would be, you can also change the values for conflicing object under MailUser OU, so that its conflicting SamAccountName and Name values are different than Grants.
