"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

From what I can tell, there's no easy solution. You'd think you could simply set an attribute on an HTML element and all would be well, but that doesn't appear to be the case.

There are two basic ways of going about this. One, is to add a column to the GridView and make a CheckBox inside the column. Then, the user simply checks which rows they want to "select" and you view the checked items in the postback event.

A couple of articles on this method:

Another way, and this is probably what you're looking for, is to engage JavaScript and in particular, JQuery, to do the work on the client-side and fill in a hidden variable on the screen with details on what the client did.

Note that hidden variables have security-hole issues, but they're still fairly actively used. Here is an article on the JQuery process.

Hope this helps.
