windows does not update and does not let install any software

Hello Experts, I have this pc using Windows 7.
All of a sudden it does not update anymore at all.
shows unknown error
and neither it lets install any otehr program like an antivirus
Show an error message saying it was not posible to installl

this pc was being used only with Windows defender.
normal work load.

Is there a fix for this or shall I format and insall again ?

open the eventwr. Start - run - type eventvwr and check for any relevant events there

Also please open the command prompt as adminsitrator and type sfc /scannow. wait until the command completes

windows key +R type windowsupdate.log

Do a Windows 7 Repair Install. You need the Windows 7 DVD and select the Repair option when it starts.

You appear to have a serious virus problem and really it may be better to back up and install Windows fresh as this will be a better long term solution.

As thinkpads said, reinstallation is the best and usually fastest option. Defender alone is really not enough, you must use an AV program besides that.
