"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

Yes, in its purest form you can use the browser and notepad to do this. But it would require a solid skill set in coding. SharePoint Designer would be your best bet for the following reasons:
- It is free.
- It requires a lower skill set to work with list forms
- You could do what you want with very minimal code changes on the page, and not really creating any new code, just working with what is on the page.

To answer your question literally, no there is no way to do what you ask without any other software because even the browser and notepad are other software products.

Hope that helps
