I have a file locked for editing problem

Hi experts,
There is an EXCEL file I am trying to access, but it says it is locked for editing.  Everyone with access to it say they are not using it.

How can I unlock the file?  I do have admin rights.

Thanks in advance,
mrotor.

Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

If all else fails then a reboot should free it.

If you cannot reboot the server then you can close it in manage Open files.
managing Open filesi suspect someone's Excel crashed or they rebooted with it open.

Try to open the file. The lock message will tell you what user has it open. I do this, go to the user and release the file (in one case by restarting the user's machine).

How do I get to manage open files?

If the files are locked for access, getting them released will allow you to open them.

Did you try with an additional software to unlock it or to see what keeps it locked?

mrotor,
As in the picture Look under "Share and Storage management" on your server. ( you did not mention OS)
click on Manage Open files on the right, browse to the directory and select the culprit and say close file.  it will also tell you who lied.  :)
