Cisco Auto QoS

I have a cisco 2900 series router. Auto QoS command is only available on the serial interfaces but not on the gigabit interfaces.
Pease advice why I cannot use the Auto QoS command on gigabit/ethernet interface.

AutoQos is only available on

- ATM PVCs (high and low subinterfaces only)

- Frame Relay DLCIs (point to point Only)

- Serial interface using PPP or HDLC

Bear in mind there are additional prerequisite config requrements for AutoQos.

auto qos is not available on GigE interfaces on a router. See the following link.

So my only option is to manually configure it.

Hi ciscosupp,

AutoqoS is not available on a router's gigabit interface, because of the following reasons:
- it is very likely that it will be connected to a WAN link which is much slower than Gigabit speeds. You need to shape your traffic according to the bandwidth available.
- your WAN provider QoS policy is unknown (e.g. the realtime/priority queue bandwidth, 3 or 6 QoS classes, or no QoS at all, whether strict policing is applied to the priority queue, QOS markings for each class.) You need to configure your WAN QoS to match your service provider's policy.
- You also *may* need to re-mark inbound traffic to match your QoS markings in your corporate network. This happens if the service provider markings are different than your corporate network markings.

Please see the post below for a basic configuration
