why am I getting an error message softkey.npl when I did a system scan and it says I don't have any system errors or to that effect

as above I get a pop up error message that sofkey.npl can't be completed or loaded; I went to the command center and did a system file scan and there were no integrity violations. should I be worried, what would be my next step to correct this?

BTW @melmgm are you sure about the spelling of the error message?  Sortkey is a dot Net component, softkey isn't an .npl I recognize.
Can you post a screenshot of the error you are getting?

I'd add at least a Windows OS Topic to your question, which OS do you have?

Do you have any anti-malware installed? If not, I suggest installing MBAM and run a scan. You can download MBAM here:

some suggestions here :  http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/all/sortkeynlp-error/890f7955-8178-41e5-8db2-984b4b8a8695?auth=1"

Method: 1

Set the computer to clean boot and check how it works:
run msconfig, select boot tab, and click disable all - then reboot

Method: 2
Perform a System File Check to fix the corrupted system files.
Follow the steps mentioned below to perform System File Check.
Step: 1
Open a Command Prompt Window in Administrator mode:
a.      Click Start button.
b.      Click All Programs, then click on Accessories
c.       Right click on the Command Prompt option,
d.      On the drop down menu which appears, click on the Run as Administrator option.

Note: If you haven’t disabled User Account Control (and you shouldn’t!) you will be asked for authorization. Click the Continue button if you are the administrator or insert the administrator password.

Step: 2
Start the System File Checker:
a.      In the Command Prompt window, type:  sfc  /scannow and hit enter.
b.      You’ll see “the system scan will begin”.
The scan may take some time and windows will repair/replace any corrupt or missing files. You will be asked to insert your Vista DVD if it’s needed.
Close the Command Prompt Window when the job is finished.
View the following link to perform System file Check.

Note: It may ask for windows DVD to fix and to enable SFC to make more than minor repairs.

Method: 3
Also I would suggest you to perform a system repair.
Follow the steps from the following article to perform a system repair.
