VMware Certification Question

My VCP-DCV5.1 was expired a while back. I would like to get DCV6, I have some time now to do it. That being said, do I need to take an official course to be able to take the exam? I can't afford the course and my company will not pay at this time. I have taken official VMware 5 courses before.

I wear a lot of hats...

"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

I'm afraid you had up to March 2015, and this was extended to May 2015, to take a 5.5 Exam, pass it, and you would have a valid VCP, to recertify, now these have passed, you will now need to take an Official Course, take he Exam Pass it, to regain, and re-certify.

The cheapest, method, would be to complete a What's New

v5.5 to v6.0, Online....

(this is why many have not re-certified!, and thrown out their VCPs!)

So I have post a question on the VMware contact us... And this is their answer:
As I understand, you need the information on VCP6-DCV Exam.

I would like to inform you that, completion any one of the below course and then passing Foundation Exam and VCP6-DCV Exam would be mandatory to be VCP6-DCV certified.

vSphere: Install, Configure, Manage [V6]
vSphere: Optimize & Scale [V6]
VMware vSphere: Bootcamp [V6]
VMware vSphere: Fast Track [V6]
vSphere: Install, Configure, Manage [V6] On Demand

Is that correct? Do I need to take 2 exams now and one of these classes?

Are we sure that I can I do the what's new class and the DCV-6 exam directly?
Andrew Hancock (VMware vExpert / EE MVE^2)VMware and Virtualization ConsultantCommented:
You only need a single class/course, but you now have to pass two exams....

Foundation abd VCP 6

This is called Path 2, because you have already have vSphere 5.x training, but are not a VCP because it's expired.

Not sure if you know that but can take the exams (let's say pass them) and then when I find a sponsor take the what's new class to complete the requirements and activate the certificate?
Andrew Hancock (VMware vExpert / EE MVE^2)VMware and Virtualization ConsultantCommented:
Yes, you can do that, it's not the traditional way to do it, but I know many that do it this way, take and pass the exams, and then do the course later, and then you can get your certificate.

Make sure, you use the same email address or exam and course, so it's easier for VMware Education to match your Exam Pass to Course!
