Trouble importing Excel file into SQL

I am attempting to load into SQl data from an excel file as this process is tedious and I want to automate this for ease of use.

I am running SQL mgmt studio on my workstation with x64 office 2010 and x64 database engine. SMS is connected toa  remote SQL 2008 R2 server ( our DEV server). I continue to recieve the error, do I neet to install Excel on teh server or just simply install the database engine on the server?

My query is as such:

SELECT * INTO Test_Inactivation
FROM OPENROWSET('Microsoft.ACE.OLEDB.12.0',
  'Excel 12.0 Xml;
   Database=C:\Users\USER\Desktop\Tabithas - Inactivation routine\Accounts that failed COA Update.xlsx',
   [Sheet1$]);

--I have registerd the object
EXEC sp_configure 'Show Advanced Options', 1;
RECONFIGURE;
GO
--then rerun
EXEC sp_configure 'Ad Hoc Distributed Queries', 1;
RECONFIGURE;
GO

Msg 7403, Level 16, State 1, Line 1
The OLE DB provider "Microsoft.ACE.OLEDB.12.0" has not been registered.

"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

You'll need Office 2007 data connectivity components on your server

You can also execute the query against the source in a passthrough manner by using OPENQUERY as follows:

SELECT * INTO XLImport2
FROM OPENQUERY(EXCELLINK,
    'SELECT * FROM [Customers$]')

I have attempted to passthrough using the following:
SELECT * INTO XLImport2
FROM OPENQUERY C:\Users\mnelson1\Desktop\Tabithas - Inactivation routine\Accounts that failed COA Update.xlsx
     SELECT * FROM [Sheet1$]

Im not sur eon the exact syntax here, I'm receiving the following errors:

Msg 102, Level 15, State 1, Line 2
Incorrect syntax near 'C:'.
Msg 156, Level 15, State 1, Line 3
Incorrect syntax near the keyword 'SELECT'.

I had the patch applied, now receiving the following error.

Msg 7399, Level 16, State 1, Line 1
The OLE DB provider "Microsoft.ACE.OLEDB.12.0" for linked server "(null)" reported an error. The provider did not give any information about the error.
Msg 7303, Level 16, State 1, Line 1
Cannot initialize the data source object of OLE DB provider "Microsoft.ACE.OLEDB.12.0" for linked server "(null)".

I had to install 2010 x64 on the server, then I had to request a C$\share to place the file on the server locally then I was able to run remotely via SSMS.

Thank you Russ!
