exchange 2013 certificates

I am having much trouble with http over rpc in exchange 2013. Always says Outlook not available. Can I use a self signing certificate or do I need to purchase? If purchase - can I simply do the rapidssl domain certificate?

"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

The question does not give us much to go on. For Certificates, any certificate used should be trusted by the client so Self Signed is not really a good option. I have never used rapidSSL but I know they have Certificates for Exchange 2013. I assume you followed best practices and have setup your Virtual directories correctly except for certificates? And DNS is correct?

In theory you can use either  a self-signed certificate, or purchase one. I would strongly suggest the latter; dealing with self-signed certificates is a major PITA.

Best way to go is a wildcard cert, one that can allow several server names. That way, it will work for internal and external access, even if your machine is connected too with differently.

Wildcards are good if you only have one email domain and never plan to implement Lync with Exchange. Otherwise, if you have more than one email domain, you would need a UC cert.
