Google CHROME Browser - How to turn off "auto update" the browser.

I keep getting notifications that my google chrome browser is downloading and updating files.
I would like to completely stop this and be able to manually update chrome.  I don't like auto-updating.
Where is the switch?

"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

In several questions here about this, no one has found a way to turn them off.  Firefox and Opera do essentially the same thing now.

Depressing thought Dave.  Very disheartening.  I HATE these updates you can't control.  Hopefully some good soul will answer up with a cool registry tweak.

You can also expect Operating System updates that are automatic and not under your control in the future from both Windows and OSX and even possibly Linux.  They are all trying to preempt security problems because too many people don't do their updates.
Chrome is my default web browser for many years, occasionally there is updates when a threat is found but not constantly as you say brothertruffle880
I'd uninstall your Chrome and fully remove the data .dat files in application data then reboot  and reinstall it.
How long since you rebooted your system, if you have not rebooted occasionally you may see the update message and reboot required until you do reboot then you wont see it again for a long time.
You cannot manually update Chrome
These updates  infrequently to me make my web experience safer by Chrome automatically updating.
