Can Symantec able to backing up linux servers?

This is using Symantec backup exec 2012 r3 server to backing up MS Windows Servers. However, I was being told that there are few more Linux server - setup with CentOS 5.5 and RedHat Enterprise server 5.2, need to be backing up. We are thinking if possible, use the above windows-based backup server, is this possible? and how?

If not possible, then, can we use "rsync"? There are 2 DB servers, using MySQL and POSTScript, shall I have to schedule to "dump" and save the latest DB some where for backup?

thanks,

You will need to download and install the linux agent for Symantec Backup Exec on to your linux servers.

Register your license then go to fileconnect.symantec.com, put in the serial number of your backup exec 12 software and you'll find it ready to download.

you should take database backups using the appropiate tool and then archive them, taking a copy of a database while in use is rarely a good idea

Thanks Noxcho for the suggested link from Symantec that has a official technical statement about the linux agent.
