Macbook Pro Mid 2014 with OS X 10.10.3.  Attempted to install Windows via Bootcamp and it has hung 3 times at expanding 65%.  Ran off DVD and will now let it put an image on to USB drive but can't figure why this happens.  Used usb 3.o flash now will use usb 2.0

I haven't done a Bootcamp install to a spinning disk in quite a while, but they do take a bit longer to install.
How large is the spaceyou have designated for the boot camp partition?

You need to reserve at least 20GB for the said partition.
20 GB is not really sufficient if you want to do anything or need to install any useful software.
Yes.

20GB is the minimum required space.
