remove password from desktop (logged in)

hi guys,

how do i remove the password while i am currently logging in inside the window?

currently this laptop is running the expired os (win xp) but i want to know how is it possible to remove the password while you are currently logged in?

i could remove it from bios using knoppix cd boot but i want to remove it from inside the system. unofortunately the owner could not remember the password. however, i am currently logging in bypassing the password using some utilities.

regards, b

you can open up a command prompt and type the following:

net user <user> ""

The syntax of the command is incorrect

What password are you talking about?

You are talking about removing password from BIOS and also removing it from desktop.  Which is it?

To clear password in modern BIOSes the recommendation is to take it to agent with proof of ownership.

However if you wish to try something else look at https://www.raymond.cc/blog/how-to-reset-remove-clear-or-reveal-cmos-bios-security-password/  However I suspect that the methods there won't work unless you have a very old laptop.  And if something goes wrong don't call us ...

the password that i am wanting to remove is the password you use to enter windows desktop each time you log into your computer. Sorry, It is not the password for the BIOS security. I could remove it using knoppix bootable disc and wipe the password but i want to remove it from within the desktop (once you are logged in) if there is any method out there in doing this. i assume we have to dig into the registry.

Confusing.. Can you log on as admin and change that users password?

ok if you have read my very first post - you would understand what i am trying to get.

BTW - I can log on by bypassing the password using a utility (software). When you are logged in - you still need the password to enter in order to change or remove the password (current).

I am asking here - whether there is a way that you could use to remove the password (while logged in into windows) without entering the current password (as the owner cannot remembers the original password). As i said earlier, i could just wipe the password by booting it into knoppix system but i want to know if there a method you could use while logged in.

soooo, somehow u r logging on as the user that forgot the password to windows? If the user name was Joe, u r logging on as Joe, password forgotten, correct? If thats the case, using your software log on as admin and change his password. Is this user a local admin. Is this machine on a domain? A friends comp? Confusing. If u are logging on just do a ctr-alt-del and change the password.. Im at a loss

If the user name was Joe, u r logging on as Joe, password forgotten, correct? - ----  YES, correct! The software i am using can only bypass Joe's (as an admin) password and take you inside the desktop and that is it. It does not remove it. The password remains there.

Now - I am inside the desktop and I want to remove or change Joe's password. In order for you to achieve this you would need to enter Joe's old or current password. The problem is - we dont know Joe's original password as he had forgotten. That is why Joe had given me his laptop to remove his password.

I never attempt to remove forgotten-password from inside (desktop) before. I've always remove them from booting the system (backend).

Thanks BillBondo,

I have solved the problem however i must give you credit at where you say "Ok, so log on as the local admin, administrator with no password".

What i done was, i created a new account (within Joe's account) with full administrative rights. then restart the laptop and log-in in the new account and remove the password of joe. then log in back into joe's pc and remove the account i created earlier.

problem solved!!!

You said that the syntax was incorrect . . .

In using Joe's account as an example:

net user Joe ""

should be able to run from a command prompt.  You can also overwrite a password that way:

net user Joe MyPass

the password would then be "MyPass".
