"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

What are you virtualizing with?  In VMware workstation set your network to bridged.  The firewall could get in your way too.

As for apps, you can mount your CD drive, or connect to an ISO?

Did you try to use XP Mode?  Only works on Pro and above.

If not XP Mode, what virtualizing product did you use?  VMware, Virtual Box?  or ?

Is networking Bridged or NAT?  or other?

You need to put it on the network and make the VM network use the host network. You may he hampered because the host machine is crippled (Windows Home)
