VMWare Site Recovery Manager (SRM)

Hi everyone,

I am thinking about implementing SRM but one of my colleagues informs me that SRM would not work if the primary site was not available because of the replication between SANs.

Is this true ? Under what circumstances would SRM fail ? If a DC, suddenly was not available, would SRM automatically invoke the DR failover plan ?

"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

SRM can be implemented to do Planned migrations and DR migration and there is also an option of Bidirectional Protection.
SRM will help in  to minimize data loss and system down-time. At the protected site, Site Recovery Manager shuts down virtual machines cleanly, if the protected site is still running and powers on the replicated virtual machines at the recovery site according to a
recovery plan. So for your question it will automatically invoke the DR site.
