asked on
DFS name space and name space server
We have currently DFS running on three sites(NY, NJ and AK). All three sites servers are windows2008 physical servers.
We are going to replace these physical server to VM with windows2012 instead of doing P2V.
We have a domain name space\\mydomain.local\home
Underneath we have folder share nyhome, NJhome and AKhome from each site server(NJsrv1,NYsrv1,AKser v1), all these three servers are name space server as well as file servers.
I am thinking of installing windows2012 at each site and add these servers as name space server and create a share at each server and replicate the folders then remove the physical servers.
Is it correct approch ?

David,
I am new to this DFS, do not have much experience on DFS.
When i add new server to the existing name space (my domain.local\home), How we are going to replicate to target if we do not create a target folder?
Should not I have to point the target folder on the new server to replicate from old server to new ?
it does not care about GP since the folder redirection is set to \\mydomain.local\home

Should I have to create a new folder in the new target(\\w2k12srv\nyhome, \\w2k12srvAK\akhome, \\w2k12\NJhome ) and give same permission or the replication will replicate all the permission in to the new target?
