Printer Server Location

Hello all!

I need some advice on where to put my printer server.
network layout - VDI environment with about 60 users using Vmware Horizon View. All users and printers are located in the Main office. The VDI hosts and all relating servers, and apps are running in Co-lo facility connected by a 100 MB MPLS network. The question is do I put the print server in the co-lo where the VDI VMs are or do I put in it in the office where the users and printers are? There will be a server in the office to handle loca networking services - DHCP, DNS, etc.?

Thank you all in advance

I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. i would recommend a separate virtual server in the office for print server.  i used to run on the DC\DHCP\DNS and it caused slow downs and hangs.  have not had an issue since creating a new print server

Also most printers have network cards, so for sure put them in the office where the users are. That will work.

the servers in the office will not be VMs but physical hosts that already exsit

We’d all like to think our company’s data is well protected, but when you ask IT professionals they admit the data probably is not as safe as it could be.

the printers will be where the users are - the question is where to put the print server?
JohnBusiness Consultant (Owner)Commented:
You can put a print server (reasonably) wherever you want. It should not matter at all.

I vote data center, you have better HA support there, and their is no real advantage to printing from the local vs DC sense you are VDI.  The data still has to stream from the desktop to the print server to the printer
