Architectural requirements for Recoverablity

Hi I would like to know how to architect and the decisions to be taken for the Recoverable aspects of the systems. It may be Disaster Recovery planning or Fail over , fallback mechanism , where to have the DR servers. Can you please share your thoughts?

I wear a lot of hats...

"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

A lot of this, unfortunately, will be dependent on your environment. Are you virtual or physical or mixed in your server environment and desktop environment? Do you have the budget for a dedicated COLO?

In our environment we are mostly virtual and use Veeam as a back up and recovery tool that works well in a DR scenario. We are setting up a dedicated second data center that will function as a DR site if needed, but will function 24X7 as a datacenter.  We have one proprietary Linux system that we are experimenting with a cloud solution for running it should we get into a DR scenario.

The things that will determine your setup are money, other resources, your risk tolerance for being down X amount of hours or days, money, your actual environment and what you need to get up quickly, and did I mention money :)
