How limit number of records in a sub-form based on a combobox selection on the main form

On the main form I have a combobox where the user can select either "2-Year" or "3-Year from a value list.

If the user has selected "2-Year" from the valuelist combobox I only want to allow for 8 records in the sub-form, no more.  If they choose "3-Year" then I want to allow 36 records in the sub-form, no more.

And if they attempt to enter one more record than allowed, in either case, provide a message box telling them that no more records can be added.

Is this possible?  The sub-form is a continuous form.

I wear a lot of hats...

"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

In the BeforeInsert event of the subform, you can count the number of rows already entered for the parent record and prevent more rows from being added.

Dim RecCount as Integer
Dim MaxCount as Integer

RecCount = DCount("*", "yourtable", "yourforeignkey = " & Me.yourforeignkey)

    If Me.cboYears = 2 Then
        MaxCount = 8
        MaxCount = 36
    End If

    If RecCount >= MaxCount Then
        msgbox "The maximum number of records has already been entered.",vbOKOnly
        Cancel = True
        Exit Sub
    End If
