What is the Oracle code for converting the left function from SQL to Oracle

Hello,

I have the following code in SQL that I use to connect my excel file to an SQL database. I now need to change my code so that it points to the same database in an Oracle database. I have been able to get most of it to work apart from the left function which does not. I have tried myself but could someone have a look?

Thanks.

Original SQL

SELECT FXTW.DEALNO, FXTW.INPUTDATE, FXTW.VDATE, FXTW.TRAD, FXTW.CCY, FXTW.CCYAMT, FXTW.CTRCCY, FXTW.CTRAMT   FROM OPICSPLUSDB.FXTW FXTW  WHERE (FXTW.VDATE={ts '2015-09-10 00:00:00'}) AND (FXTW.PRODTYPE In ('FX','TR')) AND (LEFT(FXTW.TRAD,1) In ('I'))

New Oracle

SELECT FXTW.DEALNO, FXTW.INPUTDATE, FXTW.VDATE, FXTW.TRAD, FXTW.CCY, FXTW.CCYAMT, FXTW.CTRCCY, FXTW.CTRAMT
FROM OPICSPLUSDB.FXTW FXTW
WHERE (FXTW.VDATE=to_date('2015-09-10','YYYY-MM-DD')) AND (FXTW.PRODTYPE In ('FX','TR'))

In Oracle, you use the SUBSTR function.

LEFT(field, 2) translates to SUBSTR(field, 1, 2)

LEFT(FXTW.TRAD,1) = SUBSTR(FXTW.TRAD,1,1)

You could also do:
(FXTW.TRAD like 'I%')
