PST file on Exchange server and moving it to Office 365

When I connect my outlook client to Exchange server it begins to sync all the email, contacts, calendar and tasks.  If I choose to disconnect my outlook client to our current exchange server, will my PST file still be in tact on my desktop so that I can use it to upload my email, contacts, calendar and tasks to Office 365 Exchange Mail?  Would there be any issue in doing that?

I wear a lot of hats...

"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

PST is your personal storage, there won't be any issue if you disconnect your outlook from Exchange server and doing movement work from PST. But I would say please take backup of PST before changing anything to avoid any dataloss
