"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

Configuring the iDRAC on dell servers is different from one server model to another server model and yes its similar to HP iLO configuration. In the server terminology configuring iLO or iDRAC is called service console. Please verify the link to configure iDRAC on dell severs.
As park mentioned it can be configured during Carl-B or E....
The other option is o configure it from openmanage server management interface in the OS.

There are two types of idrac one that shares the connection with the network, or an enterprise, dedicated that has its own network connection.

One more check, can I remotely shutdown or turn on the machine through iDRAC
Yes.  You would need to setup an account within idrac to gave access and you would need an ipmi compliant tool, or get the idrac utility for the OS.

The utility is graphical that will display remotely as though you are in front of the system
The support Dell site includes this software under drivers and software.
