vMWare Assessment

I am challenged with completing an assessment of my VMware environment.  I need to report the following:

Number of Hosts: Hardware Profile, Memory, CPUs, NICs, Hard Drive capacity
Number of VMs in the environment: Memory, CPUs, NICs, Hard Drive capacity
Number of Datastores: Number of VMs, Datastore size and remaining capacity
Configuration specifics for vCenter Server: Affinity, Resource Pools, etc..

Does anyone know of any freeware or other tools that I can download and use to meet my objectives above?

Thank you,

Lipotech

I wear a lot of hats...

"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

Yes, this is simple, and you can do a really professional report, for your management, and think that you have done it, if you like.

There is a new service offered called Sonar, and it's available as a 30 day trial, you can generate all the reports you like.

see here

http://xtravirt.com/sonar-at-xtravirt

http://xtravirt.com/media/2015/05/SONAR_QS_FEB15.pdf

there is also another product, called Opvizor, which can also produce reports

https://www.opvizor.com/

Some of the free tools, we use to generate assesments and reports for clients are as follows:-

1. RVTools - gives quick detaild analysis of VMs, snapshots, disks etc details can be exported to Excel.

2. Report into Word - Powercli script created by Alan Renouf, dumps powercli into Word.

3. VMware PowerCli Health Script - html report.

4. Health Check Script - another script.

the above are free to download....

We also use combinations of Veeam One, Replicate Datacenter Analyzer ,Veeam Monitor, Veeam Reporter, Vizioncore vFoglight and VMware Health Analyzer Appliance (available to VMware Partners).

But I think with all the above, you should be able to pull enough information, to prepare a very detailed assessment.

Andrew,

Do you know how I would go about getting an evaluation copy of Sonar?

Problems using Powershell and Active Directory?

Managing Active Directory does not always have to be complicated.  If you are spending more time trying instead of doing, then it's time to look at something else. For nearly 20 years, AD admins around the world have used one tool for day-to-day AD management: Hyena. Discover why

I did not see an option on the site to download an eval copy.  If dig up another link for the eval, that would be great.

It's not a download, it's a Cloud based Product, with a small downloadable client!

I do not work for Sonar, Xtravirt, if you have issues obtaining the trial, I would contact them directly.

We just use it, for our reports and clients.
