Mailbox migrations between Exchange 2010 RTM and SP3

I've inherited a server running Exchange 2010 RTM. The server's health is such that we cannot patch it and need to move off of it immediately. My plan is to set up an additional Exchange 2010 instance on a new server and then migrate the mailboxes over. (We don't want to just copy and mount the databases because the health of the existing database is suspect and we want to purge corrupted items if possible.)

My question is this: on my new server, can I install Exchange 2010 SP3 directly and do the mailbox moves, or do I need to install RTM on it first, move the mailboxes, and then upgrade it to SP3? I've been poking around the internet but haven't been able to find a definitive answer. I'm hoping to save myself some work by going straight to SP3 on the new server.

Thanks for any insight you can provide!

It is recommended that both Exchange server are running the same version.

Do you plan to just install the mailbox role on the second server to start with? Then install the other roles when your ready to 'swap over'? If so I would say there would be no issues having SP3 on your new server

Yes, I was going to leave the CAS and Transport roles in place on the old server until the mailbox moves had finished. Once all the mailboxes are moved off, I was going to migrate the CAS and Transport roles and then retire the old server.
Sounds like a plan :)

I found through testing that certain mailboxes will not move between RTM and SP3 versions in Exchange 2010.
