How do I know if a Dell Optiplex 380 can have a new 64 bit OS installed?

I want to take an old 32 bit computer and rebuild it with 64 bit.  How do I know if it's possible?

"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

380 can.

Use the info from bios on the processor. Muse the service tag and look on look at drivers and software....

All that is needed is a CPU that supports it. This means an AMD CPU with AMD64 support, or an Intel CPU with EM64T.   This includes pretty much anything you are likely to find in a desktop under about a decade old. Occasionally driver support under a 64 bit OS is a bit patchy.

The Dell 380 is definitely new enough; I have installed Win7 64 bit on one with no problem.  Drivers are no hassle.
here the specs :
it says RAM up to 8 GB which implies that you must use a 64 bit OS (32 bit max = 4 GB)
so yes - it's ok for the 64 bit version
