Redirection of website

i currently have a site, example.com that will now be secondary site to a consolidated site.   What I want is when someone goes to example.com they are redirected to mainsite.com which then will have a pointer to example.com.   I don't want to get into a redirect loop so can i set up a subdomain of sub.example.com and copy all the files into the sub directory?  So the process will be:

go to example.com
redirect to anothersite.com
link to sub.example.com

sounds crazy but we are putting all of our booster sites under one main site which then points to the individual sport sites.

Is this the best way to do this?   Or is there a better way?

"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

yes you can do it via DNS records you will need to create CName example.om which should point to anothersite.com, make sure that you should have A records for both domains. If you dont have a records then it wont work
