onenote for windows 10

I just installed windows 10 and am trying to get onenote setup, but it's terrible, they tried to simply it, and it's useless now.

How do I add a local notebook, It only allows me to add a notebook in my drive account.

"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

What version of Office are you using?  I use Office 2013 and OneNote for Office 2013 works fine. I use it all the time and do not use OneDrive (at least not yet). Try the version that comes with Office (V2007 up).

I have been using OneNote for several years (long before Windows 10) and I see there is a OneNote APP. Use the Office OneNote - it works a lot better.

The free windows store app is cloud-only. That is by design. You need to use the desktop version if you want local.

when I search on my computer for onenote, the app is the only one that comes up, how do I get the desktop version to come up?
Should I uninstall the app?

Go to Start, All Programs (Apps), Scroll down to Microsoft Office and select Send to OneNote. Open it and OneNote should open (does for me). See if that works.

Also, I did a Search and Both came up. What version of Office are you using?  And you may need to do an Office Repair. Do a Full Repair if you do.

The desktop app does not come with windows 10. So unless you have a legit copy and installed it, it won't be in your program files.

when I upgraded W10 made the App the default and I had to go seek out the desktop one and add my own shortcut but once I loaded it the setup was identical to what I had last used. apart from the App had made Cloud the default so I had to fiddle with settings to get back to where I wanted it.

I agree its poor but if you've been using the desktop version before upgrade its not irrevocable.

I installed office 2013 Plus Pro, as I have a licensed copy.

I'll try to see what I can do, I'll keep everyone posted.

Thanks guys, that was my problem, since the app was the default, I used that, I don't like the app, it's dumbed down and removed a lot of the options from the full version.

I got it going, thanks again, I set the desktop application as the default, so I should be good and I'll remember this for the future.
